One of my favorite coffee shops is the Plymouth Coffee Bean. Art, a friendly environment, coffee, and music–what else could us creative types possibly need?! Over the years I have participated in some open mics and I tried to be a regular for the monthly poetry nights (the open mics still happen on monday nights but the monthly poetry nights don’t seem to happen anymore)
Anyways, after some years I decided to finally send the Coffee Bean my portfolio. It was a little bit of a journey to get to that point. This is the place where you put on a pot of coffee (or visit the Coffee Bean, depending on when you read this) because this poet is about to get a little sentimental but I’ll try to keep fairly short-ish.
For the most my art and poetry were relatively separate endeavors but I eventually combined the two. I have covered my poetry journey in the pages of this blog and my about page. I started sharing my words through various blogs and poetry forums over the years. I started writing poetry as a freshman in high school (during my sewing class). The courage to share my poetry on blogs and forums emerged a year or two after I began my poetry journey. Then I stumbled on the Bean and found out about the poetry nights (early 2000’s-2010’s–whoa!) and open mics and was encouraged to read my words. 😂😁
The idea to combine my art and poetry came about in 2017 when my job was looking for vendors for their Holiday Bazaar. I decided to sign-up because I had nothing to loose but the opportunity (and being on staff there was no charge), so I took the plunge. At that time I didn’t have a name for my craft, I wasn’t even sure how far I would be willing to explore this venue. I had fairly rave reviews (maybe due to Christmas season) but I thought I could try this even as a casual hustle. In early 2018, I came across Maker Faire on social media and found out that it’d be hosted at favorite place–a historian’s Wonderland (The Henry Ford). This was where I realized my pieces needed an umbrella name and thus Scribbles.Art.Poetry. was born. I had the pleasure to participate in two Maker Faires (2018 and 2019). Unfortunately, Maker Faire at The Henry Ford never returned after the pandemic. In the meantime, at my job I was able to participate in a couple more Holiday Bazaars until 2020 hit. I had a table at a couple spring Art Fairs at my job, which eventually gave me the courage to try having a booth at the Townpeddler (in 2022).
It tickles my heart that trifecta responsible for my growth as an artist is 1.) job 2.) my favorite coffee shop 3.) my favorite museum…..

If you made it this far through my post, I appreciate your indulgence in my nostalgic journey…So back to my announcement. I received an email approval for my art/words to be on the Plymouth Coffee Bean’s walls last thursday. So cue drumroll please….my artwork can be found in the fireplace room from now until around the end of February. I hope you’ll stop by and read my words and buy a little treat for yourself so we can continue to support the arts at the Plymouth Coffee Bean. And you’ll definitely see me there.
