A blog that showcases my tri-fold craft of art, history and poetry. A place where stories and sketches are woven into paginated tapestries. In these pages I share my original works and my favorite stories of bygone eras (well researched). Sometimes my words, art and history are one. While other times they appear simultaneously or individually.
Art
I was always making or drawing something as a kid. My passion for art probably started before history and poetry. I was the student in school that was always drawing in their notebooks and margins of class notes. Now, I still draw anywhere and on nearly anything I can, but I keep a dedicated Sk’etchbook and Art Journal respectively. Although, I have a bad habit of erasing too hard and the pages get a little messed up.
My typical art is mixed media, paper craft, and drawing. I draw a lot of block lettering, nature and zentangle pieces. While my mixed media often encompasses painting, paper crafting/collage and other embellishments, especially a couple one-liner poems.
My favorite mediums:
Distress Ink
Acrylic paint
Scrapbook paper
Micron pens
Sharpie Markers
You can find my work in my portfolio (where I occasionally provide a narration if I feel that a piece has a story behind it worth telling), my blog gallery, my Etsy shop and occasionally as an art drop in the Free Little Art Gallery (FLAG).
I have had a passion of History since I was ten years old. My happy place has always been Greenfield Village. I earned my B.A in history at UofM Dearborn. I enjoy learning and sharing the stories of humanity. After all we all have at least one story.
Over the past five or six years I had the honor of providing historical talks at my place of employment (a retirement home). I enjoyed all the facets of the historical process.
I have a habit of getting completely entangled in every historical project I pursue. I love jumping down the research rabbit hole. During my talks I set the scene by dressing up and furnishing my space with props that I either made or replicas I have found. I do my best to keep to maintain period accuracy.
I am currently seeking speaking engagements.
Previous Talks:
Valley Forge
Battle of Monmouth
Thomas Edison
Greenfield Village
Battle of the River Raisin
Culper Spy ring
Gettysburg
Throughout these pages I curate my favorite “stories”. You will find poems inspired by historical research or ART-I-FACTS created by my hand.
I have been writing since I was a freshman in high school. Instead of stitching with thread, I was stitching words into swatches of stanzas. You can read about my foray into poetry here.
Throughout my poetry journey I have kept many journals, blogs, and posted on forums. I write wherever the current carries my pen: paper, cell phone apps, napkins, coffee sleeves, etc. I have won a couple awards, appeared in the University literary magazine a few times and participated in my fair share of open mics/poetry readings. However, I still have a habit of keeping my works a little close to my chest and forget to post or otherwise share. I am working on sharing my work more frequently.
“Together art, poetry and history make up my jam,a Tri-Berry fruitful delight!”-JACK”E”
Cue the Drum and Fife Corp! So who is the author behind My Etched Pulse?
Hello There! I’m JACK”E” (well, that’s a pen name). It has always been my favorite creative spelling of my name given to me by my late Great Uncle.
My current daydream is to have a studio where I craft and draft. I want a place where I have a space for a mini library, a table where a typewriter spits out text, a ink bottle with quill pens, paint and all my assorted favorite tools. For now my blog will have to be my virtual studio and gallery.
I hope you enjoy my pages and will enjoy jumping down the rabbit hole with me.
