Checkered Sunflower

Boxboard or Cardboard canvas? Either way it was a great drawing board. I cut the canvas in half or so after I drew and outlined the flower. I used Gelly Roll gel pens to fill in my “sunflower”. Gelly Roll gel pens have always been among my favorite color mediums because the colors are so vibrant.

A little art therapy washed down with coffee is always a great afternoon delight!

Above is my finished piece. I love how the colors here pop! A few loose petals remind me of tears in a way. The purple curls remind me of “weeds”.

This piece was loosely inspired my this potted plant engraved art piece I passed frequently five days a week, during the school year.

In the original piece the flowers were in a pot. Many of the flowers were just budding. However, one of the flowers caught my eye, especially it’s center. For some reason it reminded me of a checkerboard. I decided to try my hand at a few different zentangles.
