As the last day of November is here and my Nanowrimo project didn’t see its finale, I decided to save some face my writing a poem. I sometimes participate in poetry prompts on instagram. This month, I had the desire but time eluded me. As I looked over the prompts I was struck with the inspiration to attempt to write a poem using as many prompts from FallsPoetry’s November 2020 Daily prompts. I decided that I needed to use November’s Child as my opening line because, after all I was born in November. All the bold faced words reference the prompts.
*************************
I am November’s Child
born this month on its twelfth day
an autumnal wintery mashup
I frolic through the fallen ruska
and marvel at dawning saffron
I sip cider
yet desire Guinness
washing down doughs of apple cinnamon,
I sigh in breaths of patience
An unconditional node
crossing lines
a maze of gingham
drifting into its comfort
a yawning gulf
gathers the sea
my dreamy vessel sails
through this journey
I find the perfect shade
beckoning me
refuge from thunderbolts and flickering shadows
and when it’s all over
a lazy smile washes across my face
for I am burned from an element of fire
yet I know in day’s final passing
my heart will be crushed into a diamond
a script of my scribbles
crumbled tissues
of a filtered life
hopefully written well.
